A 34-mile paved and packed-gravel rail-trail stretching from Abingdon through Damascus to Whitetop Station, following the former Virginia Creeper railroad right-of-way through hardwood forest, over 47 trestles, and alongside the Whitetop Laurel Creek through one of the most spectacular stream gorges in the Virginia highlands. Bike rentals and shuttle services are available in Damascus for the popular downhill run. The Virginia Creeper Trail is consistently ranked among the top rail-trails in the entire United States.
