The Gray Fossil Site is one of the most significant paleontological discoveries in North American history, preserving a 4.5-million-year-old sinkhole ecosystem with fossils of tapirs, red pandas, alligators, and rhinos. ETSU's world-class museum displays hundreds of specimens excavated from the active dig site visible through floor-to-ceiling windows. Interactive exhibits and a 3D fossil lab make science accessible to all ages. One of only two places in the country where visitors can watch active fossil excavation in real time.
