Blountville
Sullivan County seat, historic courthouse square, and home of Tri-Cities Regional Airport
Blountville is the unincorporated county seat of Sullivan County and one of Northeast Tennessee's most quietly historic communities. Long before the Tri-Cities name existed, travelers along the Great Stage Road stopped here — and the town's brick sidewalks, Federal-style buildings, and courthouse square still carry that 18th-century pedigree.
The Sullivan County Courthouse anchors downtown Blountville, surrounded by a compact historic district that includes the Old Deery Inn — a former stagecoach stop that now serves as a museum and gathering place. Walking the courthouse lawn and nearby side streets is one of the best free history experiences in the region, especially during seasonal festivals and holiday events that fill the square with vendors, music, and local color.
Blountville is also the address most visitors know best: Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI) sits just outside town, connecting Northeast Tennessee to Charlotte, Atlanta, Orlando, and other hubs. That makes Blountville the practical front door for out-of-town guests heading to Bristol's State Street, Kingsport's riverfront, or the outdoor corridors toward Erwin and Elizabethton.
Between the airport, the courthouse heritage, and easy access to Warriors Path State Park and the Holston River, Blountville rewards travelers who slow down on the way to somewhere else — a detour that often becomes the surprise highlight of a Tri-Cities weekend.
