Natural Tunnel is one of those Southwest Virginia sights that photographs never quite capture — an 850-foot cave opening with a creek running through it, reachable by stairs or seasonal chairlift.
The state park adds a swimming pool, campground, and interpretive programs; plan at least three hours on site.
Highlights
- Natural Tunnel overlook & boardwalk descent
- Chairlift to tunnel floor (seasonal)
- Stock Creek Gorge Trail
- Park swimming pool (summer)
Sample one-day itinerary
Start at visitor center; view tunnel from rim before descending.
Chairlift or stairs down; explore creek level 60–90 minutes.
Summer pool option; leave by 4pm for Bristol return.
Know before you go
- Chairlift seasonal — verify before planning descent for mobility-limited visitors.
