Map shows Fayetteville, WV. Times vary from Kingsport and Bristol.

New River Gorge National Park centers on one of the deepest river canyons in the East. Fayetteville is the friendly base town for rafting outfitters, climbers, and cafe stops.

You can do overlooks and a short hike without committing to a full raft day — but half-day whitewater is the classic first-timer experience.

Highlights

  • New River Gorge Bridge overlook & visitor center
  • Fayetteville downtown — dining and outfitters
  • Long Point or Endless Wall trails (moderate)
  • Whitewater rafting on the Lower New
