Map shows Pilot Mountain State Park, NC. Times vary from Kingsport and Bristol.

Pilot Mountain's Big Pinnacle is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Piedmont — a quartzite knob rising above Surry County farmland with cliff-ringed overlooks a short walk from parking.

Combine with Mount Airy (Mayberry) for a classic NC small-town plus state-park day.

Highlights

  • Big Pinnacle overlook trail
  • Little Pinnacle family loop
  • Yadkin River section — paddling access (seasonal)
  • Mount Airy downtown (Andy Griffith heritage)
