Shady Valley Habitat Conservation Area

Shady Valley's highland bog complex is a nationally significant natural area preserving the southernmost natural cranberry bogs in North America and a remarkable array of rare plant and animal species adapted to this cool, moist highland ecosystem. The valley itself, perched at 2,800 feet elevation, hosts species more commonly found hundreds of miles to the north. Nature walks, birdwatching, and photography attract naturalists throughout the year. The partnership between TWRA, TNC, and local landowners to preserve this unique landscape represents one of the region's great conservation success stories.
