A protected 722-acre state natural area in Carter County harboring one of the finest examples of mixed mesophytic cove forest in the Southern Appalachians — a botanical community of staggering species richness including dozens of wildflower species, old-growth tree specimens, and rare endemic plants. The short trail system is accessible on foot from Highway 321 in Hampton. Spring wildflower season from April through May is the prime visiting window for botanists and naturalists.
