Founded in 1779, Jonesborough is Tennessee's oldest town and a National Register Historic District where over 40 antebellum and Victorian-era structures line a living, walkable Main Street. Antique shops, art galleries, restaurants, and the International Storytelling Center occupy beautifully preserved 19th-century storefronts. The Chester Inn (circa 1797) is among the oldest surviving structures in the state. Self-guided walking tour maps are available at the visitor center, and guided tours depart regularly on weekends.
