The Doe River Gorge is a dramatic natural canyon carved by the rushing Doe River through the lower slopes of Roan Mountain, offering a spectacular 5.5-mile trail that passes waterfalls, old railroad infrastructure, and towering rock walls. The trail follows the historic East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad roadbed, passing through a series of hand-cut tunnels. Wildflowers blanket the gorge floor in spring, and the river's cascades provide a soundtrack throughout. One of the most underrated hiking destinations in the Tri-Cities region.
