Watauga Lake is one of TVA's clearest and most beautiful reservoirs, sitting at 1,959 feet elevation in the Cherokee National Forest with 105 miles of largely undeveloped shoreline surrounded by forested ridges. The exceptional water clarity makes it a favorite for boaters, kayakers, trout anglers, and swimmers seeking an uncrowded mountain lake experience. The surrounding Cherokee National Forest offers hiking, dispersed camping, and wildlife viewing. Rat Branch Campground and the Dennis Cove area provide developed access points.
