Boone is a college-town base with outfitters and breweries; Blowing Rock is the postcard village 15 minutes east with shops and dining on US-221.

Pair with Grandfather Mountain or a short Blue Ridge Parkway hop for the full High Country day.

  • Temperatures run 10–15°F cooler than Johnson City — bring a layer.
  • US-221 and 421 can be slow on fall weekends.
