Eighty young performers from across the community take the stage in two casts
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - Swim on over to the BK for some summertime family fun!
Bonnie Kate Youth Theater will bring the colorful underwater world of Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo JR. to the historic Bonnie Kate Theater for four performances July 24-26, 2026.
A total of 80 children ages 5-15 from across the community came out for auditions and were divided into two casts. Cast A will perform Friday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 25, at 2:30 p.m. Cast B will perform Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 26, at 2:30 p.m.
Through the Bonnie Kate’s partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, many Club members were able to take part in the production. They make up much of Cast B, performing alongside other children from throughout the community.
“One of the songs in the Finding Nemo JR. musical is ‘We Swim Together.’ The Youth Theater cast could experience this as they learned lines, sang songs, danced and worked together with friends. The same is true of the production staff. Haylie Ramsey, Katie Freeman, Adam Hybarger and Stephanie Bacon helped me with this big project consisting of two casts and lots of kids. I am so thankful to have such talented people around, and I am happy that we could swim together!” said director Marcia Ross.
Based on the beloved 2003 Disney and Pixar film, Finding Nemo JR. follows cautious clownfish Marlin as he crosses the ocean in search of his adventurous son, Nemo. With the unforgettable Dory by his side, Marlin encounters sharks, sea turtles, jellyfish and plenty of surprises while learning about courage, friendship, trust and the meaning of family.
The lively 60-minute musical features audience favorites including “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food” and “Go With the Flow.” It is a perfect first theater experience for younger audiences and plenty of fun for the grown-ups
