Guided winter snowshoeing programs at Roan Mountain State Park on snow-covered trails leading to the iconic balds and spruce-fir forest zone, led by park naturalists who interpret the high-elevation winter ecology of the Southern Appalachians. Snowshoe rentals are available at the park office. The park's elevation at 2,800–6,000 feet guarantees meaningful snow accumulations that transform the landscape into a winter wonderland distinct from lower-elevation Tri-Cities terrain. Advance reservations are required and fill quickly after snow events.
