The annual celebration of the world's largest natural Catawba rhododendron garden — over 600 acres of blazing magenta bloom on the high Roan Highlands balds — draws visitors from across the eastern United States to Roan Mountain State Park for a weekend of guided bald walks, craft vendors, live mountain music, and natural history programming. The bloom peaks typically in mid-June at the highest elevations. One of the most spectacular wildflower events in the entire Appalachian mountain system.
